Unraveling the Secrets of the Great Pyramid: A Glimpse into the Mysteries of Antiquity

Updated: May 23

The Great Pyramid of Giza is one of the world's most ancient and mysterious structures. Generations of explorers, scholars, and tourists have been fascinated by the construction of King Khufu around 2560 BC. Despite its fame, the massive stone blocks of this structure still hold many secrets.

The Great Pyramid of Giza

The ScanPyramids project team has explored the pyramid's inner structure using noninvasive technologies. Led by a team of scientists from different countries, the project uses advanced technologies like infrared thermography, 3D simulations, and cosmic-ray imaging to successfully examine the pyramid and uncover its internal structure.

One of these discoveries is a long corridor measuring 9 meters by 2 meters inside the pyramid on the structure's north side. Cosmic-ray muon radiography, a technique that uses subatomic particles to penetrate solid objects and create images of their interior, detected the corridor. The scientists then used a thin endoscope to confirm the corridor's existence and capture its appearance.

The corridor is above the pyramid's main entrance, which tourists now use. It is inaccessible from the outside, and its purpose is unknown. According to some experts, its design could distribute the pyramid's weight around the entrance or another concealed chamber. Others speculate it may have been part of a ritual or symbolic function related to the pharaoh's burial.

The corridor is not the only hidden space inside the pyramid. In 2017, the ScanPyramids team announced the discovery of a mysterious void at least 30 meters long above the Grand Gallery, a significant sloping passage that leads to the King's Chamber. The void is also inaccessible, and its role is unclear. Some researchers think it may have been a space left by the builders to reduce the pressure on the roof of the Grand Gallery. Others propose that it may have been a secret chamber containing relics or treasures.

Archaeologists, historians, and the public are thrilled to dive into the fascinating discoveries from the ScanPyramids project! These findings reveal a treasure trove of knowledge waiting to be uncovered about the Great Pyramid of Giza and its mysterious secrets. They highlight the remarkable capabilities of modern technology in unraveling the mysteries of ancient wonders while safeguarding their true essence.
